camera not recognized!

Hi helpers...
Up till last week my pb recognized my digital camera. [My old G$ still does].
Now, when I plug it in, there's no sign of anything on the desktop; and it's not aknowledged in the system profiler...
I have rebooted, run permission repair, and Macjanitor [monthly ], but still nothing.
The lcd on the Fujifilm 401i says it still thinks it's getting through ... but the led's don't flash [ they do with the G4]
So I'm stuck here - can't work out what can be happening. And I need the camera for work.
I did a search, but couldn't find anything...

John,
Is there a specific software driver for the camera? If there is one, I might try reloading it.

Yes, there is.... But OSX has a driver on board that usually dealt with it.
But perhaps that's gone haywire, in which case I could load the other driver, or reinstall that part of OSX [if I can find it...].
A while ago I attempted to load more images from the camera to the other Mac and ....... same thing now - she don't work!
So I think I can deduce that there is some kind of intermittant fault with the camera; in which case I think a sepate card reader might be the solution.
thanks for responding...

Perhaps you need to reformat the memory card on your camera ?

No... it's not that. I already did it.
I've bought a card reader on ebay just now. So hopefully that'll get my pictures out!
Thanks
