I just got this powerbook from ebay and when I restart the computer, before the apple logo comes on, a little grey folder appears and blinks a question mark....then a few seconds later, OS X boots up.......so I thought this might be a software issue, no biggy, sense the OS boots up, let me just re-instal OS X, so I put the disk in and restarted the computer, EVERY time I do this, as soon as I get to the apple logo, it freezes, and the little apple logo kind of glitches......thats it.......every time......freeze......so I have to reboot and eject the cd before it starts up again......any ideas?

Your profile does not quite add up.

    1.83gHz implies an Intel MacBook

    10.3 implies a PPC.

Can't use that disk in that machine.

Let's figure out what you actually have first.

This is going to sound dumb, but go to system pref>start up disk and manually choose your OS X folder and restart. I am having an issue where my superdrive won't start from CD's or DVD's so I have to go in there to start from a CD. When I don't go back there to change it from the DVD back to my OS X folder on my hard drive, I get the same ? folder and then it starts up. Hope it helps!
